Thursday Two Question/A Course in Miracles

Welcome to Thursday Two Questions.

I'm reading a book called A Course in Miracles, which defines miracles in a whole new way than I am accustomed to.

To me, miracles refer to events that interrupt the laws of nature as the result of an action by God, a saint, or a religious leader.

But A Course in Miracles brings miracles down to earth.

It equates a miracle to the kindly world you see extend before you as you walk in gentleness.

It says a miracle:
  • is not withheld from anyone.
  • is an exchange performed by those who temporarily have more for those who temporarily have less.
  • is healing because it supplies a lack.
  • increases the strength of the giver and supplies strength to the receiver.
If this is true, we can all perform miracles simply by giving to our fellow man.

What a thought.

My Thursday Two Questions to you are:
  1. What is your definition of a miracle?
  2. Have you or an acquaintance ever experienced a miracle?

1. In my experience, a miracle is when a person's life changes substantially for the better, most often with help from a friend, even a new friend.
2. Yes.

Hi Kay. Your definition of a miracle melds with that given in A Course in Miracles, which means we may be the givers and receivers of miracles more often than we realize. My greatest miracles were the birth of my two sons. I felt part of something beautiful and way beyond my comprehension both times.

1. I believe that miracles happen everyday. When you allow yourself to experience the good in life, that's when miracles happen.

2. I have many times.

Hello Poetic Shutterbug. Life is a miracle, and as it says in A Course in Miracles, "miracles occur naturally as expressions of love."

I like the way the book defines miracle- it is a way to bring miracle closer to what we can control.
1) I would define miracles the same way as you Margaret. And additionally to me it is beyond human capacity at times. It is supposed to be something that reverses what was intended to happen, or enhance an event positively. To me a miracle is not negative.
2) Yes, I am sure that I have had moments where I thought "that was a miracle" though can't think of one right now...so I will try to come back again.

1. What is your definition of a miracle? Something that you never thought possible happens or does come true, I think through divine intervention.

2. Have you or an acquaintance ever experienced a miracle? Yes, many times over. It's hard not to believe in a greater power. bernadine

I would define a miracle as something totally unexpected and life changing. But then I also agree that small miracles are a part of daily life, an act of kindness or giving to someone in need could be a miracle to that person.

I can think of times when a turn of events at the last moment seemed like a miracle.

My definition of miracles is like your original thought, and I have experienced many miracles in my life.

Hi Self Sagacity. Like you, I can't always pinpoint the miracles in my life, though I know for certain they occur. Sometimes, we just know it in our gut.

Margaret Duarte said...

Hello Bernadine. If one pays attention to all the miraculous in this world, yes, it's hard not to believe in a higher power.

Hi Squirrel Queen. According to A Course in Miracles, miracles are expressions of love, but they may not always have observable effects. They come from a miraculous state of mind. So, yes, a turn of events at the last minute could be a miracle.

Margaret Duarte said...

Hello Icy BC. Again to quote A Course in Miracles, "Miracles occur naturally as expressions of love. The real miracle is the love that inspires them. In a sense everything that comes from love is a miracle." So it's natural that you have experienced many in your life.

Everybody has their own definition of miracle, it's not one way or another to be right or to be wrong. So according to my own definition, I have experienced it!

Margaret Duarte said...

Hi Doan Legacy. I love it. You more or less said what The Course in Miracles does, "There is no order of difficulty in miracles. One is not harder or bigger than another. They are all the same. All expressions of love are maximal." So, according to its definition as well as yours, you have experienced them.

A miracle is something totally unexpected but you hope for and for some lucky ones, have happened!

Yes, life is one big miracle for me now. And yes, it has something to do with my spiritual journey which led me to amazing and wonderful discoveries every day. And my personal blog has documented some of it!

I'm back. I almost was not able to comment because the word verification process took sometime. Now I understand why people have asked me to remove the word verification on my comments box because it has deterred commenters. I recently removed ALL word verification anyway I moderate all comments anyway. FYI ;-)

Hi Lui. Thanks for letting me know about the word verification process. I might take it down for a while and see what happens.

My definition of a miracle is pretty much the same as what you have written. :)

I have definitely experienced a miracle - the birth of my daughter was truly a miracle...I wasn't 'supposed' to get pregnant 'normally' after a bout with cervical cancer followed by years of infertility and several miscarriages. She is my favorite miracle! :)

Margaret Duarte said...

Wow, Stacy, what a wonderful miracle. A true gift from God.

1. A miracle for me is someone or something coming through at the right moment when you just about gave up hope.

2. Yes I've experienced many miracles.
My mother found me just almost 3months before I was to leave my country permanently.
The journey was God paved when you hear our stories.

Happy mother's Day.

Hi Jamerican Spice. Someone or something coming through at the right moment when you're about ready to give up is more than coincidence, and what one can call a miracle. I hope you write down and preserve the stories of your journey as no one but you can tell them.
