Thursday Two Questions #22/The Creative Life

Welcome to Thursday Two Questions.
On Monday, in a post called, The Creative Life/Tips for Writers and Artists,  I made the following generalizations about the creative lives of artists and writers.
  1. In one form or another, they have stepped into "The Between," where mind and spirit meet.
  2. They have plugged into the Intelligence that exists as potentialities around them, often relying on their intuition to do so.
  3. They live multidimensional lives and know how to connect with their inner core and feed their soul.
  4. They are open to life's messengers, knowing that whatever catches their attention is trying to tell them something and that whatever they pay attention to will grow.
  5. They have a flexible response to life and know there aren't any wrong turns, only new ones.
  6. They use their imagination to create something extraordinary out of the everyday.
  7. They are the writers, actors, and directors of their own stories.
My Thursday Two Questions to you are:
  1. What is your own particular creative talent?
  2. What practices or rituals do you use to assist your creative flow?

Hello there. Lets see..there in here somewhere? (lol) I've taken turns and made many choices, so I can tell you they've brought much limitation. Still, I've gained wisdom in the process.
I pray and step into the unseen and walk by faith..(I have special glasses) ha ha

Hello Kilauea Poetry. It takes faith and courage to step into the unseen--and sometimes, special glasses.

I've been to your blog, sHeNgKaY, so I know you are creative. Claim that, at least!

Good questions Margaret. I don't know that I have any particular talents other than an active imagination and a tendency to look beyond the surface of things.

I have no practices or rituals but I do pay attention to my daydreams.

1. Poetry, I've written poetry all my life.

2. What gets my creative juices flowing is getting out in nature with my camera and experiencing all the sights and sounds.

Other than writing children's stories, I love just about anything artsy. One of my favorite pastimes is to hand-stamp greeting cards. They are simple, but I get a lot of compliments on my work. I'm sure it's more sentimental thoughts of appreciation more so than the actual artwork because I've seen some very intricate hand-made cards before and mine don't come anywhere near those.

My inspiration for my greeting cards comes from a spin off from what I see others done. I just do it as a means of sheer relaxation and fun.

Hi Margaret, 1) Let's see, after the last few weeks, I almost want to say what Shengkay said :-(. But, I can be creative in most things if being thrown at. Sewing, craft, design, I don't have one thing that I like best, although right now at the moment, I have to say it has to be my blog since I spent most of my free time on it.
2) Creativity just comes when I can visualize something and by asking myself what if? Or through conversations with my kids, they have quite the imaginations.
Thanks for linking and participating this week.

Hi Squirrel Queen. I'm amazed that responders aren't counting their blogs and blogging as a creative talent. I've been to your blog and see that you have a lot of faithful followers. You must be sharing something real and important to them. Congratulations. I'm assuming one of your practices is sitting down in front of the computer for hours typing out creative posts. Do you work better in the morning or afternoon or evening? Do you listen to music in the background? These count as practices and rituals. Of course, paying attention to dreams can be very helpful. I've read that in some tribes, members meet to share their dreams each morning with the belief that the messages they receive during the night are sent from the spirit world (or what some call the Zero Point Field) and apply to everyone in the tribe.

Hi Collectibles Merchantile. Poetry is a fine form of creative expression. And I so agree that the sights and sounds of nature puts one in the mental state to connect with out inner voice and let it speak. The camera is also a great tool for creative expression. Sometimes simply by framing something within the eye of the camera, we notice things we normally wouldn't.

Hi Cathy. In my opinion, the sentiment behind or greeting in a handcrafted card is as important, if not more so, than the artwork itself. I, too, find inspiration from the handwork of other's, especially if similar to mine. It's what I enjoy and pay attention to.

Hi Self Sagacity. Yes. Take credit for all the work and talent it takes to put together and maintain a blog. Visualization is an important part of creativity. Artists and creatives take ideas out of what seems like thin air and then turn these ideas into realities, be through sewing, drawing, painting, inventing, or blogging. We're all creatives in one way or another. I'd say being a parent takes an endless amount of creativity.

our lifes are so busy that we need some creativity in it, I find that making some decoupage itmes puts a smile on my face, or just creating something that will look lovely in the house and then sharing it with ohter people through the blog feels great as well:)

Margaret Duarte said...

Hi Ewa. Decoupage! Wow, I haven't done that in years. But I remember how fun it was. Good for you. And lucky are the people whom you share it with.

I think everyone who does a blog or a web site is creative, but maybe a blog just a touch more because they are writing all the time.

I love being creative and I wish there was more time to dabble. I like to sew, crochet, draw, do free lance calligraphy, write, woodwork, research and write some more.

Margaret Duarte said...

Hi Dorothy. I agree. Blogs take a lot of creativity. I salute all the bloggers that have stopped by today. You are CREATIVES.

Margaret Duarte said...

Hello Judy. Wow. No wonder you need more time. But I wouldn't call such crafts as sewing, woodworking, and writing, dabblng.

1) My particular creative talent is knitting, playing my guitar, and writing. I write for many different websites.

2) I find inspiring ideas from reading, or seeing something that I like.

Margaret Duarte said...

Hi Icy BC. I'm impressed if you write for many websites. Good for you. I find one work enough.

DoanLegacy said...

I don't have any particular talent! If I set my mind to do something, I usually get it done.

Margaret Duarte said...

Hi Doan Legacy. I've enjoyed the lovely photos on your blog and believe some, if not all, were taken by you. If this is correct, you indeed have a talent. And you are sharing it! I often wonder about what goes on in photographers' minds while taking their amazing pictures. I'm guessing that while focusing on the world's beauty, a sense of peace and joy takes over and a photographer slips into the "zone" where creativity rests.

bernadine said...

Hi Margaret,

1. Writing
2. I do it all the time, but I do take time out for other endeavors too. bernadine

Margaret Duarte said...

Hi Bernadine. It's wonderful that you are willing and able to share your creative talent as you do. All the time. With time outs, of course.

Hm. Very good questions.

I think I can sew and very well if I want to focus on it. I've done it before as a child. I'm just afraid for some odd reason.

I also like to sketch, people, clothes, settings etc and I have not done so since I got married 6yrs ago.
I miss it.

Now i need to figure out the others.

Aloha!

Margaret Duarte said...

Sewing and sketching are wonderful ways to express one's creativity. I'd say get back to it. 6 years is too long. I didn't discover my love for writing fiction until my kids were grown. I wish I had started earlier. I also quite playing accordian when I married and now I regret it. It would take years of practice to play as I once did.

very interesting questions. i used to draw and paint when i was in school, even dreamed of becoming an architect. also wrote some poetry and short stories. i hope i could get back that "focus" to write again.

i create design ideas for home decor and furniture.

to assist my creative flow, i talk and observe people, let my mind wander, be with nature-- walk on the beach, watch a sunset or a full moon, listen to music, read, visualize.:p

Margaret Duarte said...

Hi Luna Miranda. You are definitely a creative! Wow, so many talents. Your habits to assist your creative flow are many. Awesome.

Hmm, tough questions :D

1. My creative talent would be a little craft making... but I haven't done anything since St. Patrick's :(

2. I listen to music, blog and read up on more craft making ideas... I hope to start back craft making very soon. It's my new hobby.
Oh and I love writing letters and drawing some small stuff to send for pen pals across the world!

Margaret Duarte said...

Hi Kelly-Ann. You have many creative outlets, enhanced, it seems, when you listen to music. I've heard that some writers listen to music in the back ground to get into (or find inspiration for) certain scenes of their novels. After publication, when they re-visit these scenes, they remember exactly what music was playing in the background when they wrote them.
