Thursday Two Questions/Twitter

By Fanie!
Welcome to Thursday Two Questions #18.

I once thought that I needed to learn how to text on a smart phone in order to use the social networking and micro blogging service called Twitter

This week I've learned from a group I belong to called Thursday's Novelists, that I can send and read messages (tweets) through my computer and via my blog.

I did some experimenting and next thing I knew, I had twenty Twitter followers.  I discovered (to my complete amazement) that I already had a twitter account and address @enterthebetween (must have set it up without even knowing it).

My Thursday Two Questions to you are:
  1. Do you use Twitter, and if so, how?  If you don't use Twitter, why not?
  2. In your opinion, does it take a lot of time to use Twitter to it's full advantage or are there ways to use it effectively with a minimum of effort?
If you'd like to further participate in Thursday Two Questions, follow the link below.

Yup, I use twitter. It's how I found this post! I use it to find articles on writing advice, but I also have made friends and we goof off form time to time.

Hi Patricia Lynne. Nice to meet you, through twitter no less. Thanks for stopping by.

Don't use twitter. Have enough trouble following a couple of blog sites and attending to my own writing commitments. Sorry - I'm not a 'twitter-er' bernadine

1) I use Twitter to tweet my post or article via the internet.

2) I don't use it to its full advantages since I don't know what it's all about really.

Hi Bernadine. I don't have the time either, but have heard what an important tool Twitter is. That's why I'd like to find a way to make use of it without being overwhelmed by it.

Hi Icy BC. Sounds like we're both in the same boat. At least we've discovered how to use it to post our articles. A great starting point.

1) I use twitter to tweet my posts. I had a question to the ones who use twitter whether they read the posts or not. Because I receive almost zero incoming traffic from Twitter. Apparently your discovery has yielded some results - good for you.
2) I think twitter takes as long as other programs if you truely use it.

I do have a tip now that I think about it. I skip the follow tweets, like the #FF hashtag, I completely skip over it on Friday (or any other day people post lists of followers.) I only look if the person posts a couple names and give a reason. That can save a lot of time.

Hi Self Sagacity. I had few reponses to my twitter posts until I started ending my tweets with a hash mark and message. #Amwriting, for instance, is a search reference used by many writers at Thursday's Novelists.

Hi Patricia. Wow, #FF hashtag for follow, never heard of it. By posting names, I'm assuming you mean a title and maybe a short description of the post. I'm still so new at this and might remain so considering the little time I have. Thanks for the information though.

My dog has one and like Facebook it is great for networking. But I notice that more than half of tweets are just that - "tweets"...not unless one is a celebrity and live exciting lives...

Hi Lui. That makes me feel better. Maybe I'll wait to get into twitter until I'm a celebrity and living an exciting life!

I have had a Twitter account for quite some time now. I use it mostly to promote my giveaways and I do get quite a bit of traffic from it.

I think Twitter can take up a lot of time or a little. I use Tweekdeck on my computer and have separate columns for various friends and blog types. That makes it easier to keep track of tweets I'm interested in. I really don't monitor it that closely most days and I probably miss a lot of good information.

PS, @squirrelqueen1 is now following you on Twitter!

Hi SquirrelQueen. "Tweekdeck?" That sounds interesting. Thanks for the follow!

I don't have a Twitter account, but there is a lot of hype about it although I don't see the reason to get connected all the time to the people that I don't know.

I think I'm fine with just blogging, visiting blogs, and commenting. Other times, I rather be with my family!

Yes I do use twitter. It's really easy to use it. And it's not at all time consuming. It all depends on what you want out of it.

Margaret Duarte said...

Hi DoanLegacy. Being connected to people you don't know is a big part of becoming a published writer, so for me it's a must. Heck, if people don't know about my books, how do I expect to sell them? Otherwise, you're right. Blogging, visiting blogs, and commenting is time consuming enough.

Hi Jamerican Spice. I can see from your comment that I have a lot to learn about twitter. It certainly doesn't sound easy to me, especially since I don't use my cell phone unless I absolutely have to. I don't own a "smart" phone. But then again, I can access twitter via the computer. As I said, I have a lot to learn.

I am so lost with some of the sites on the computer. I had a twitter account which I fully embraced, when I first set it up, but then grew quickly disappointed as time became nonexistent and one of my "friends" there monopolizes my page.

Margaret Duarte said...

Hi Judy. I like the way you put it: time becomes nonexistent. Yes, that's how I feel sometimes. Not good, not good. I never even considered that a "friend" can mononpolize your page. I won't even ask how that happens. Thanks for your input. I learn so much from post comments.
