Thursday Two Questions/Recycling Blog Posts

By tamdolloriginal
Welcome to Thursday Two Questions #17

I once thought that recycling a blog post was somehow cheating or illegal--a blogger no-no.

Now I've learned just the opposite.  It's actually good blogger practice to recycle and share your most popular blog posts.

In fact there are hundreds of articles devoted to showing you ways to do just that.  One of them, Five Ways to Recycle Your Old Blog Content, suggests that you republish you posts as EzineArticles that link back to your blog.

There are even such things as "Content Sliders" to help you in the sharing process.

My Thursday Two Questions to you are:
  1. How often do you recycle your old blog posts?  If you don't recycle, why not?
  2. Have you head of EzineArticles, Content Sliders, or other ways to help recycle blog posts?
Thanks for sharing.  Thanks for stopping by.

1) when i joined a nostalgia meme, i recycled some of my old posts. recycling old blog posts is also a chance to rewrite and improve the article.

2) i haven't read any article of blog posts recycling but will check out the links you provided. thank you, Margaret.

have a great day!

Hi Luna. You're right, when recycling is a good time to rewrite and improve your article. In fact, all I read encourages you to do just that. Thanks for stopping by.

What a great idea. I recently added a "you may also like" widget to my blog, to get some of my followers to read my earlier posts which are actually chapters of the book I'm writing (same name as my blog) but I'm going to look into this. I've heard of Ezines but not Content Sliders.
Thanks, Margaret, very helpful.

Hi Kay. I believe they say a post has maybe a 30-day life span, which I think is way too generous. I think a post is often forgotten the minute it leaves the five or so that are featured on one's blog home page. So that means all that work just disappears. What a waste! Resurrect. Recyle. It's okay. It's smart.

1) I do, but not enough. I usually refer to them more than recycle them.
2) Those are good ways, and the new popular posts from blogger is great too. I love the tool, as I can see you do too. I have actually gone through your popular posts so it's working. :-)
Thanks for joining TTQ today, and have a great evening.

1. Blog 'responder' only. I don't recyle. Respond specifically to topics of daily posts.

2. No - time constraints - I've been on the computer for over an hour, and it is 5:57 a.m.
I'm selective! but even when 'responding only' blogging is extremely time consuming. bernadine

I have heard of both, EzineArticles, and Content Sliders, but I don't recycle my articles this way. I would rather refer to them in a link..Duplicate contents will lose their index in the long run..

Hi Self Sagacity. Referring to previous posts works, especially if you include a link so readers can find them easily (Lack of time is such a factor here). Yes, "Popular Posts" works great. I'm glad you found mine. In fact, as I'm writing this, the "Popular Post" list is right next to the post comment box. Thanks for stopping by.

Hi Bernadine. Believe me, I know what you mean about blog "responding" being very time consuming all on its own. I, too, have become very selective, out of necessity, not by choice. The Internet can rob all of one's time if you let it. Thanks for being such a loyal reader and responder. I can't begin to tell you how much I appreciate it.

Hello Icy BC. In all the articles I read, I haven't heard anything about duplicate content losing it's "index" over time. Could you tell me more?

I had never heard of those two ways to recycle Margaret, but I agree with Bernardine, I am finding the more blogs I read and respond to, as well as my own, I am running short of time. And I was crazy enough to start another blog for my business my sister and I own! Now I don't know when I will have time to paint. And you don't have to respond to this :D Spend your valuable time on something more important! :D thanks for this info though...

Hi cath. If I find a way to spend less time at blogging and responding to other blogs, I will surely let you know. Umm, maybe you can do the same for me. I did a post on blogging a while back, titled Blogging, I love it, I hate it. Sometimes I love it and sometimes I hate it, really hate it. I need some exercise. I need to work on my yard, clean my house, spend more time with my family. You know how the story goes. Thanks for stopping by Cath. Knowing how hard it is, I really appreciate it. And I will respond to you, maybe not today.

1. I never really thought of doing that. It is a great idea I think.

2. I have not heard of those site. I would like to check them out.

Hi Jamerican Spice. Let me know what you find out about recycling and your reaction to it if you get a chance. Thanks for stopping by.

Content sliders is new to me, but I don't worry about recycle my posts that much. I'm trying to learn more about keywords so search engines can find my posts!

Margaret Duarte said...

Good idea DoanLeagacy. I'm doing a post on key words on Wednesday. Maybe I'll carry it through for next week's TTQ. Hope you can share what you've learned by them in a comment at that time.

I suppose it depends on how you define recycle. I have been blogging for almost two years and while I have recycled some photos they were used in different posts. I do sometimes post a link to an old post. The giveaway/review posts I do recycle, I copy the HTML and paste it to a new post. Then I change the amounts/item/photos and dates, it saves me a lot of time and the sponsors don't mind. It's sort of like having a template.

Saw your and Icy's comments about key words, I have some posts from 2009 that are still getting views because of the key words.

I haven't heard of either!

Hi SquirrelQueen. I better do some more research on Keywords for next week's post. Looks like you're way ahead of me.
