In Monday's post, I listed 15 More Reasons to Blog, five of which are:
- To highlight small-time artists with big-time ideas
- To feature good-will organizations
- To spread good news
- To share a hobby or venture.
My Thursday Two Questions to you are:
- Why do you blog?
- Do you think blogging is worth all the time and effort?

Originally I blog to update friends (and foes, haha! ;-) especially those who have migrated in other countries or cities far from me. I make creatives for people as gifts and since I can't hardly do that anymore I can at least create one for them and send ASAP without a need to meet up! Blogging allowed me to enjoy more private time and still keep up with friends and make new ones too. On a scale of 10, I would peg it at 7 so I guess it is worth it!
Hello! I just stumbled across your blog ;D from the Blog Farm. I just started to blog. My family life's is unique and people thought I should write a book~ I thought a blog was more attainable! I love it! I 'd forgotten how much I enjoy writing and right now, my son is in the hospital. He's extremely sick and writing has become a way for me to cope. But I've also started to actively look for other writing opportunities. I do think the blog is worth my time and effort. I love the feedback! It's cathartic and I'm forging online 'friendships'. Thanks for the great question! take care~Amy
1.) I started blogging after a fall sat me on the sidelines for 6 weeks. I watched one morning of daytime TV and knew I'd have to find something else to do while my knee healed, so I headed for the internet in search of an idea, and a blog was born.
2.) I started blogging in June of 2006 and here it is December of 2010 and I am still going strong. Obviously I do think it is wo9rthwhile. I have forged many real friendships online, in fact, I met my life mate via our blogs. We consider it our internet miracle.
1) I started blogging in October 2009, co-contributor on BlessingReflections. In December 2009 I started my very own first blog: Self Sagacity.com. I wanted to contribute to a charitable cause on BlessingReflections.
2) I think blogging for me is a lot about mental being. The thoughts and creativity is satisfied in a way nothing else in life can.
Hi Lui. Yes, blogging is a great way to update friends, especially in other countries. My relatives in Holland (who all read and speak English) have gotten to know me better and now keep in touch with me this way. Finding new friends is nice, too. A seven out of ten is good. Thanks for sharing.
Hello transplantedx3. First, my best wishes and prayers for your son. Thank goodness blogging is helping you cope. I've heard that people have made books out of their blogs, so you might give this a try sometime in the future. But you're right, blogging is attainable and a good place to start. I'm glad you stumbled on my blog. Thanks for stopping by and leaving your comment.
Hello Quilly. The internet and blogging can be a savior when you're laid up--working the mind while the body heals. Wow, you started blogging 4 years ago. You have 3 1/2 years on me. And you're still at it. I'm impressed. I like that you call meeting your new life mate an internet miracle. Guess that means the answer to number two is yes. Thanks for contributing to my blog.
Hi Self Sagacity. You and the other contributers at Blessing Reflections are doing a great job, especially helping out a charitable cause. I also like your blog at Self Sagacity. You've got 9 months on me. I hope I can keep it up for at least that long or longer. Guess time will tell. Your words about the thoughts and creativity behind blogging being satisfying in a way nothing else in life can are encouraging. Thanks for sharing.
i have a sleeping problem (DSPD) and i needed something some constructive distraction. a friend suggested i start a blog and i did. then i rediscovered photography and a blog a good venue to post the photos and keep my interest going.:p
sometimes, blogging is time-consuming but it keeps creative ideas flowing. makes me curious, makes me think--and that's a good thing, right?:p
I started blogging on a cold day in March 2009, it was mostly on a whim but I was also curious about the process. I never expected it to last more than a few weeks. I continue to blog because it has inspired me to be more creative, it is definitely sharpening my photographic skills.
Blogging takes up so much time and there are days when I wonder if I should continue. But then I start wondering what my blog friends are up to or I have something I really want to share.
I've been writing about my life experiences for years to my family, first by mail, then by email. Then I discovered an easy way to connect my friends and family with my experiences and stories through blogging. Lo and behold, it opened a whole new world for me...a way to share my stories, my photos, and now I find I am sharing just my thoughts and feelings too...all in one place. And I find myself enjoying reading blogs too, and the ones I enjoy the most are the ones like this one.
My main hope now is to capture my thoughts and stories for my grandchildren to have when I am gone. And for that, I am thankful I discovered blogging...
1) I started to blog in 1908 just for the sheer purpose of exposing my online articles, as the editors suggested.
2) Blogging is a time consuming business, but I think it's definitely worth it because it gives me a creative outlet, and I'm continue learning new things every day.
I began blogging to get my web presence built since I knew my children's book was in the publishing process. That's what I read from 1001 Ways to Market Your Books told me to do. So, I created Cathy Kennedy Stories blog. While the title of my blog eludes to my blog being about stories, it's really more about life or what I'm inspired to write on any given day. I don't have a monopoly on any particular subject, but in time I feel things will fall into proper perspective as to how I should lead my blog.
Blogging is time consuming, but yeah, I'd say it's worth it. Doing my best to post a blog each day means I'm thinking as a author should. Writing about whatever happens to stir me at the moment. It keeps the creative juices flowing inside my washing machine of a brain sometimes. You know it's sometimes full of suds and nothing else? Perhaps if nothing else it will stave off dementia or one of those other ugly mental aging diseases associated with elderly life, which is fast approaching.
Come on over to my blog to play Thursday Two Questions...
http://cathykennedystories.blogspot.com/2010/12/christmas-memories-thursday-two.html
Hi Luna. I love the idea of combining photography and a blog, not only for your sleeping problem, but because it's such a treat for your readers. Through your photos, you give us a different prospective of the world, a lovely one. Thank you. Yes, having an outlet that keeps creative ideas flowing, makes you curious, and makes you think is definitely a good thing.
Hello SquirrelQueen. 3 months short of a year of blogging for you. Good job. As I told Luna, combining photography with blogging is a special treat for your visitors and followers. You give us a new perspective of the world and the workings of your creative mind. I agree that blogging takes up a lot of time. I'm trying to find a way to continue and improve my blog, while spending less time doing it.
Hi Cath. You just made my day. I love that you enjoy my blog. I also love your reason for blogging and that blogging has opened a whole new world for you. Sharing stories, photos, and thoughts with family and friends--all in one place (to which I add, at a convenient place for your readers to go when they have the time and inclination) makes sense, especially when you said you're also writing for your grandchildren. What a gift.
So far, just about every commentor has mentioned that blogging is a creative outlet for them. What's so nice about it, is that a blog is completely your own--and free. And I agree with your editors, Icy BC, it's a wonderful way of exposing your articles, which may otherwise end up in a drawer, unread and unappreciated, as is the case with many writers I know.
Hi Cathy. "Washing machine of a brain that is sometimes full of suds and nothing else." Hah. I love it. Sounds familiar.
Like you, I started my blog as a marketing tool for my four novels nearing the publishing process. But blogging has become more than that, in good ways and bad. Finding new cyber friends is great. Keeping the creative juices flowing is great. What's bothering me,though, is how blogging sucks up all my time. I have books to write and revise. I have a family. I have a life! I hope I find a way to continue my blog and improve my blog, using less time. Don't we all?
I started writing at Triond in 2007 and blogging was recommended by our publishers. I was encouraged and assisted by a couple of my good friends there. Having discovered a passion for writing, it's hard to stay off it. It's addictive!:-)
Is it worth it? Ask any woman if they would like to give up communication. Blogging is such an excellent form of communication. I think it may replace the telephone. :-)
Hi Judy. Blogging, Facebook, and emails have just about replaced the telephone in my house. I love that I can communicate with friends, family, and other bloggers, etc., at any time of day and never inconvenience anyone. They can read my messages and reply when they have time. I'll have to look up Triond. A publishing company, is my guess. Thanks for stopping by.
Hi Margaret,
I don't have a blog, but I do respond to a couple. I look forward to each of my favorite blogsites daily postings and generally comment. I hope the blog site authors feel my feedback is worthwhile.
I realize it can be very time consuming to 'do a blog' but it doesn't take much time to post a comment. I think blog site authors, look forward to their 'hits' responding, if not on a regular basis, at least once in awhile - comments make their efforts worthwhile, as well as generate intrest from other blog participants. Keep the blogs coming.
Hi Bernadine. It is the ultimate compliment when someone who does not blog stops by to read nd respond to my posts. You are so right, blog authors look forward to comments. On the average, maybe one out of twenty does so. Sometimes I feel like a tree falling in the forest with no one around to hear. People like you do indeed make my efforts seem worth it. Thanks so much for the encouragement.
I blog for quite a few reasons. It gives me the chance to network with people.... make friends and receive wisdom from feedback. It helps me to organise emotions. It's fun. It's motivational. It's preparation for writing a book. It's a potential for a revenue stream.
Yes I do think it is worth the effort.
Hi Marty. All your reasons for blogging make good sense. I like in particular how you say it helps you to organize emotions. Thanks for stopping by, fellow blogger, and for leaving a comment.
